• The small herd of elephants that has been around camp over the past 24 hours was once again outside Paddy’s house.

• The two hippo at Tassleberry dam were also still there. The bull gave us two great yawns before we carried on.

• Nkombe dam clearing was again fantastic with zebra, wildebeest, impala, rhino and warthog all grazing in the clearings!

• We checked on Hlabankunzi’s den site to see if she had returned. The two cubs were there, but she was not, so we left as the cubs are too young to view alone. We managed to get one or two photos though while making sure that mom was not around!

• Just as we left the den site, Hlabankunzi was found again near where we had her this morning. We followed her down Dulini Shortcut and watched as she attempted to hunt a Nyala bull. The nyala unfortunately saw her, and ran off, and we left her heading back in the direction of the den site.

• We returned to the Ottawa pride that was on Hatlisa/Main road Shonalee junction. They had left the three smaller cubs a few hundred meters from them, as they were probably heading out to start hunting. They were, however, lying on the road, grooming and listening while we were with them.

• We got a call that the Sparta pride was hunting the buffalo near Savanna Camp. After a mad rush south, we found them on Newington road, lying about 30 meters from the large herd of buffalo.  It seemed to be in a bit of a stale mate, but every now and then the buffalo would come closer to the lions and try to chase them off. The herd then started moving further east into Singita, and the lions followed for what promised to be a long and eventful night!
