• Shortly after leaving camp we found 5 rhino wallowing at the mud puddles just west of Georgie’s dam. They then all became very playful and we spent the next 20 minutes watching as they all were play-fighting, chasing one another around the dam, and at one point, we had four of the rhinos in a full gallop across the dam wall, straight at us! Fortunately they veered off, and continued their antics on the edge of Georgie’s dam.

• Another rhino cow and calf were on the edge of the clearings at Mackenzie Camp. The calf was lying down and having a quick drink of milk from the female.

• Once we left the rhinos, we decided to look for the Ximungwe Pride, but that plan was changed quickly when we got a call from Paddy to say that he had found a male cheetah on an impala kill at White Dam. When we got there, he was lying to the side of the kill with a very full belly, while a juvenile bateleur eagle fed on the kill. He eventually got up, and started feeding again. It has been nearly a full month since we have seen a cheetah on the property, and it was a great surprise to see it here. Interestingly, it was not the regular male with the droopy lip, but a younger male we see very occasionally.

• We tried to get to where the lions had been seen earlier in the day, but the light had faded quickly, and they had moved off. During drinks at Makazalitche, we hear them roaring to the south east of us!

• On the way home we bumped into a porcupine on Treehouse Mackenzie road! This is the first porcupine I have seen in over a year, and although the sighting was brief, we had a great view of it on the road before it scurried into the thickets!
